Ukraine hits Russian refinery as Zelenskiy reportedly says 'we're done' with Trump's energy truce
USO•Ukraine struck a refinery in Russia's Ryazan region after Zelenskiy reportedly said Ukraine had ended its pause on attacks against Russian energy targets. The refinery accounts for nearly 5% of Russia's refining throughput and helps supply Moscow.
1. Truce suspension ends
Ukraine struck a Russian oil refinery on Thursday after Zelenskiy reportedly said in an interview that Ukraine was done supporting the energy ceasefire announced by Trump. Ukraine had suspended attacks on Russian refineries after Trump's announcement, but Kyiv says Russia continued missile and drone strikes, including on energy targets.
2. Refinery hit in Ryazan
The targeted refinery in the Ryazan region is owned by Rosneft and accounts for nearly 5% of Russia's refinery throughput, helping supply Moscow. Regional governor Pavel Malkov said a Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire. A Ukrainian official said the strike was in response to Russian attacks that violated the truce.
3. Dispute with Washington
Putin said Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries had caused “nothing particularly significant.” Zelenskiy said he would consider halting energy strikes only in return for more U.S.-made Patriot interceptors. The dispute comes as Ukrainian officials say changes to military-grade Starlink systems have limited their use on fast-moving drones.
