Ukraine resumes strikes on Russian refineries as Zelenskiy says 'we're done'
USO•Ukraine resumed attacks on Russian refineries with a drone strike that caused a fire at an oil refinery in the Ryazan region, its governor said. Zelenskiy said Ukraine’s suspension of refinery attacks had ended and that he would halt energy strikes only in return for more US-made Patriot interceptors.
1. Strikes resume
A Ukrainian drone attack sparked a fire at an oil refinery in Russia’s Ryazan region, Governor Pavel Malkov said. He said the damage was being assessed and emergency services were at the scene.
2. Zelenskiy ends suspension
Zelenskiy said Ukraine had ended its suspension of attacks on Russian refineries, saying, “The block (on attacking refineries) is out. We’re done.” Ukraine had refrained from strikes after President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire on Sunday, but Zelenskiy said Russia’s continued attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure had left 600,000 people without power.
3. Conditions for a halt
Zelenskiy said Ukraine would agree to halt energy strikes only if it received more US-made Patriot interceptors, calling that the “minimum” acceptable. He also said Washington had warned Ukrainian officials it would block intelligence unless Kyiv halted strikes on Russian energy infrastructure.
