Union Pacific beats profit estimates on strong freight demand, higher rates
UNP•Quarterly profit tops estimates
July 23 (Reuters) - Union Pacific posted second-quarter profit above Wall Street estimates on Thursday, as higher freight rates and strong demand overshadowed an increase in operating costs.
The West Coast railroad operator reported adjusted earnings of $3.41 per share for the second quarter, topping analysts' average estimate of $3.24 per share, according to LSEG data.
Union Pacific's revenue jumped 12% to $6.86 billion from a year earlier. Analysts' expectation came in at $6.71 billion.
