UPS Launches Nationwide RFID and Integrates Roadie for Expanded Same-Day Delivery

UPSUPS

UPS completed a nationwide RFID rollout across its U.S. package network, replacing manual scans with real-time tracking and boosting last-mile efficiency. The company expanded its same-day delivery capabilities through Roadie-Centiro integration and is encouraged to pivot beyond parcel carriage into e-commerce platforms to capture higher-margin B2C volume.

1. Nationwide RFID Tracking Deployment

UPS has installed RFID sensors across its entire U.S. package network, replacing time-consuming manual scans with automated, real-time tracking data at each checkpoint. This upgrade aims to reduce handling errors, improve delivery accuracy and enhance visibility for corporate and retail customers.

2. Roadie-Centiro Same-Day Delivery Integration

Under a new integration, UPS’s Roadie platform now interfaces with Centiro’s delivery management system, enabling retailers and third-party logistics providers to offer same-day delivery without major warehouse changes. This solution streamlines order routing, optimizes driver assignments and accelerates last-mile fulfilment.

3. Strategic Shift Toward E-Commerce Enablement

Industry analysis suggests UPS should leverage these technological advances to move from basic parcel carriage into a top-tier e-commerce services role. By developing or partnering on digital platforms, UPS could drive higher-margin B2C volume and compete more effectively with emerging direct-to-consumer networks.
