U.S. Bank freight index shows dry van contract rates rise as spot rates cool
USB•U.S. Bancorp analysis showed dry van contract rates rose to $2.39 per mile in August from $2.30 in June, while spot rates fell to $2.17 from $2.38. Fuel surcharges also increased, to $0.70 per mile from $0.62.

U.S. Bancorp analysis showed dry van contract truckload rates rising from June through August as spot rates eased. By August, contract rates carried a roughly $0.22-per-mile premium to spot rates; fuel surcharges rose to $0.70 per mile from $0.62, and fuel accounted for 24% of the dry van broker-to-shipper spot rate, compared with 21% in June.
