Corn basis steadier as futures ease
Corn basis bids were steady to firm, with a few locations raising their bids for prompt grain deliveries.
Farmer corn sales slowed as benchmark corn futures Cv1 on the Chicago Board of Trade backed down from three-year highs set at mid-week.
As of 11:28 a.m. CT (1628 GMT), CBOT December corn CZ26 was down 2 cents at $5.38-3/4 a bushel, hovering below Wednesday's life-of-contract high of $5.49-3/4.
CBOT November soybeans SX26 were down 5 cents at $13.11-1/4 a bushel.
Soybean basis weakens as harvest approaches
Cash basis bids for soybeans were steady to weaker in the U.S. Midwest on Friday, pressured by the approaching harvest in some areas, as hot and mostly dry weather this week advanced crop maturity, brokers said.
Combines were starting to roll in southern areas of the region, into portions of Missouri and southern Illinois, brokers said.
The spot soybean basis fell by 25 to 30 cents a bushel at crushing facilities in Decatur, Illinois, and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The basis fell by 10 cents at a Decatur, Indiana, soy processor.
The basis was even weaker for soybeans delivered in mid- to late September and October, when the harvest should be in full swing.
