US closes Jeep fire probe after Stellantis recalls 1.08 million vehicles
STLA•The US auto safety regulator closed its preliminary evaluation of Stellantis Jeep vehicles after the company recalled nearly 1.08 million vehicles in June. The recall covers 2021-2025 Jeep Wranglers and Gladiators manufactured from June 24, 2020, to December 2, 2024.
1. Probe closed
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed its preliminary evaluation of more than 1 million Stellantis Jeep vehicles following reports of underhood fires when the vehicles were parked and the ignition was off. The probe, opened in September 2024, covered about 781,500 Wrangler SUVs and Gladiator trucks.
2. Recall coverage
Several reported fires appeared to have originated near the power steering pump, the agency said. Chrysler’s June recall expanded beyond the vehicles in the original probe, and NHTSA said it addressed the vehicles and conditions examined. The agency will continue monitoring field performance and could take additional action if warranted.
