US consumer confidence dives to more than 12-year low in September

1. Confidence falls sharply
The Conference Board said its consumer confidence index plunged 6.7 points to 81.9 in September, the lowest level since 2014. Economists polled had forecast 89.2. Chief economist Dana Peterson said assessments of current business conditions turned negative for the first time since September 2024, while perceptions of the labor market worsened but remained positive.
