1. Executives to meet Trump
Trump will meet Tuesday with tech executives including Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and OpenAI President Greg Brockman. House Speaker Mike Johnson, Palantir CEO Alex Karp and Trump tech adviser Michael Kratsios are also expected to attend. Johnson said the discussion will focus on balancing innovation and oversight.
2. Poll finds broad concern
A nationwide Reuters/Ipsos poll conducted September 17 to 20 found 73% of respondents worry AI companies have not done enough to prevent serious harm to society, and 55% said slowing AI development would be good. Trump has called fears about AI's threat to humanity a “hoax” and stressed maintaining the United States' competitive edge over China. Under a June executive order, AI developers are asked to voluntarily submit certain frontier models for government review up to 30 days before release to trusted partners.
