U.S. job openings rise to 7.523 million in Sept
SPY•U.S. job openings rose to 7.523 million in September 2026 from a revised 7.190 million in August. The openings rate increased to 4.5% from 4.3%.

The U.S. Labor Department reported 7.523 million job openings in September, up from a revised 7.190 million in August and 7.169 million a year earlier. The openings rate rose to 4.5% from 4.3% in August. Hires totaled 5.402 million, quits rose to 3.365 million from 3.044 million, and layoffs and discharges declined to 1.641 million from 1.768 million.
