The main U.S. stock indexes fell on Wednesday, when oil prices surged past the market-sensitive $100-a-barrel mark for the first time since July because of deepening Middle East tensions.
At 1138 EDT, the Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI was down 0.77% at 52,379.71. The S&P 500 .SPX was down 0.52% at 7,633.27, and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC was down 0.74% at 26,226.18.
