US stocks-S&P 500, Nasdaq advance, turning the page on a tumultuous week

Declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1.78-to-1 ratio on the New York Stock Exchange. There were 92 new highs and 346 new lows on the NYSE.
On the Nasdaq, 1,973 stocks rose and 2,810 fell as declining issues outnumbered advancers by a 1.42-to-1 ratio.
The S&P 500 posted five new 52-week highs and 30 new lows while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 45 new highs and 162 new lows.
Volume on US exchanges was 25.29 billion shares, compared with the 16.19 billion average for the full session over the last 20 trading days.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 95.40 points, or 0.18%, to 51,682.64, the S&P 500 .SPX gained 12.74 points, or 0.17%, to 7,650.50 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC gained 104.25 points, or 0.40%, to 26,522.55.
