US Stocks-Wall Street indexes slip as oil prices rise, retail results awaited

The Dow Jones Industrial Average .DJI fell 272.63 points, or 0.51%, to 53,459.78, the S&P 500 .SPX lost 40.70 points, or 0.52%, to 7,745.06 and the Nasdaq Composite .IXIC lost 84.25 points, or 0.31%, to 26,644.91.
Except energy, all of the benchmark S&P 500's 11 major industry sectors lost ground with communications services .SPLRCL and consumer staples .SPLRCS both falling about 1.5% while financials .SPSY and consumer discretionary .SPLRCD lost a little over 1%.
The S&P 500 technology sector .SPLRCT finished down nearly 0.2% after flitting between red and green during the session.
Trading in technology has been volatile with investors anxious about whether hefty spending on artificial intelligence will pay off. Reuters reported on Friday that two people familiar with Anthropic's financials said the company, which is preparing for its IPO, forecast 2028 revenue of roughly $190 billion to $200 billion.
