Uklon, owned by Kyivstar, has launched Ukraine’s first live autonomous vehicle pilot at Boryspil Airport employing onboard sensors, LiDAR, real-time connectivity and remote human operators. The initiative, VEON’s first autonomous mobility program, follows its USD 1.3 billion investment from 2023–2026 in Ukraine’s digital infrastructure.
Uklon, part of Kyivstar’s digital ecosystem acquired in March 2025, initiated live autonomous vehicle testing at Boryspil International Airport. This first-of-its-kind pilot positions Uklon as a leader in Ukraine’s emerging robotaxi sector.
The pilot leverages onboard sensors, LiDAR, real-time connectivity, vehicle telemetry and a remote operations infrastructure with human operators providing transitional control toward full autonomy. This setup mirrors core elements of modern autonomous vehicle programs, laying groundwork for higher autonomy levels.
This program represents VEON’s first autonomous mobility initiative and builds on its USD 1.3 billion investment from 2023 to 2026 in Ukraine’s digital infrastructure. The project aligns with national Digital Development Strategy goals and involves collaboration with regulators and Boryspil Airport toward driverless operations.
