VEON Commits USD 250 Million to Anchor USD 1 Billion FDI in Bangladesh
VEON•VEON has committed USD 250 million to anchor a USD 1 billion FDI initiative in Bangladesh targeting advanced connectivity, digital infrastructure and AI-powered services. The “Invest in Bangladesh NOW” public–private partnership aims to deliver digital banking, microfinance and insurance services to millions of underserved citizens.
1. Investment Commitment
VEON has pledged an initial USD 250 million to anchor a USD 1 billion foreign direct investment program in Bangladesh over the coming years, focusing on advanced connectivity, next-generation digital infrastructure and AI-driven solutions via Banglalink.
2. Partnership Framework
The “Invest in Bangladesh NOW” initiative is structured as a public–private partnership co-developed with the Prime Minister’s Office and the ICT Ministry, aiming to pool VEON’s capital with international investors to reach USD 1 billion in FDI.
3. Digital Finance Vision
VEON plans to leverage its global fintech expertise to launch accessible digital banking, microfinance and microinsurance products, targeting millions of underserved Bangladeshis to enhance financial inclusion and economic empowerment.
4. Future Growth Opportunities
Beyond core telecom investments, VEON and Banglalink will explore digital education, healthcare, agriculture, IoT and ride-sharing services, as well as advanced connectivity offerings like direct-to-cell technology to expand their digital ecosystem.
