Volkswagen car deliveries in 2025 dipped by 0.5% for the group, with China sales down 8%, while VW-branded deliveries fell 1.4% as US tariffs weighed on North American demand. It partnered with Qualcomm to build software-defined vehicles offering Level 4 autonomy and AI infotainment by 2027.

1. Volkswagen Brand Deliveries Decline in 2025

Volkswagen Group reported a 1.4% year-on-year drop in Volkswagen-branded vehicle deliveries for full-year 2025, reflecting persistent challenges in its two largest non-European markets. Deliveries in China fell by 8%, as local competitors gained share and COVID-related restrictions continued to disrupt dealer networks. In North America, new U.S. import tariffs on vehicles from Germany contributed to softer demand, with deliveries down 2.3% despite incentives on EV models. Deliveries in Europe held steady, up 0.5%, driven by continued uptake of the ID.4 electric SUV and strong sales in Germany and France. Across all regions, Volkswagen delivered 4.8 million cars in 2025, compared with 4.9 million in 2024.

2. Volkswagen and Qualcomm Forge Partnership on Software-Defined Vehicles

Volkswagen and Qualcomm Technologies announced a strategic collaboration to develop a centralized compute architecture for Volkswagen’s next-generation software-defined vehicles (SDVs). Under the agreement, Qualcomm will supply its Snapdragon® Ride platform, enabling Level 4 autonomous driving functions and zonal electronics architecture by 2027. The partnership covers development of AI-powered infotainment systems, over-the-air software update capabilities, and advanced driver assistance features. Volkswagen plans to integrate Qualcomm’s 5G-capable telematics unit into at least three new models in its ID electric family, aiming to reduce system complexity by 30% and cut vehicle development cycle time by six months. Both companies will co-invest an estimated €500 million over the next three years to accelerate software integration and validation across Volkswagen’s global production footprint.
