Volvo Cars to Debut 810 km Range Mid-Size Electric SUV This Month
Volvo Cars will launch a new mid-size electric SUV later this month, offering a driving range of up to 810 km (503 miles) on a single charge. The company aims to convert sceptical buyers by directly addressing EV range anxiety with this extended-range model.
1. New Electric SUV Targets Range Anxiety
Volvo Cars will launch its new mid-size electric SUV later this month, offering a driving range of up to 810 km (503 miles) on a single charge. The Swedish automaker expects the model to attract buyers concerned about electric vehicle (EV) range limitations, leveraging its latest battery technology and aerodynamic design improvements to deliver one of the longest ranges in the mid-size SUV segment. Production will begin at Volvo’s factory in Gothenburg, with initial deliveries scheduled for early next quarter.
2. December Sales Increase
In December, Volvo Cars sold 75,049 vehicles globally, representing a 2% increase compared with the same month last year. This marks the fifth consecutive month of year-on-year gains, underscoring steady consumer demand for the automaker’s refreshed lineup of SUVs and electrified models. The December tally contributed to a record annual sales figure, driven in part by strong order books for plug-in hybrid and battery-electric models.
3. Regional Performance and Model Highlights
While overall vehicle sales in Europe dipped by 0.2% in December, Volvo Cars posted a 0.8% rise in U.S. deliveries and a 1.2% increase in China, its two largest non-domestic markets. The XC60 remained the brand’s best-selling model for the year, accounting for approximately 22% of total volume. Success in North America was fueled by growing interest in electrified variants, which now represent nearly 30% of U.S. sales, while strong government incentives supported market share gains in China.
