Wall St opens higher as softer payrolls data, lower yields lift sentiment
SPY•Wall Street opened higher after a softer-than-expected jobs report deepened prospects of unchanged U.S. rates this month and Treasury yields fell; the Dow rose 0.67%, the S&P 500 gained 0.89% and the Nasdaq climbed 1.27%.
1. Indexes rise at open
At the opening bell, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 340.08 points to 51,266.64, the S&P 500 gained 68.27 points to 7,734.72, and the Nasdaq Composite climbed 341.47 points to 27,216.91. Lower oil prices also boosted sentiment.
