Wall St opens lower as oil gains on Mideast uncertainty, eyes on Trump-Xi talks
SPY•U.S. stocks opened lower as Middle East tensions lifted oil prices and Treasury yields, with investors cautious ahead of a Trump-Xi summit. The Dow fell 0.19%, the S&P 500 0.51% and the Nasdaq 0.75% at the open.
1. Indexes open lower
The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 95.8 points, or 0.19%, to 51,415.75 at the open on Thursday. The S&P 500 dropped 39 points, or 0.51%, to 7,666.99, while the Nasdaq Composite fell 201.5 points, or 0.75%, to 26,734.508.
2. Oil and summit in focus
Simmering Middle East tensions lifted oil prices and Treasury yields. Investors also exercised caution ahead of a keenly watched summit between Presidents Donald Trump and Xi Jinping.
