Walmart embeds Sparky AI assistant into ChatGPT for personalized shopping
Walmart has embedded its proprietary AI shopping assistant Sparky into ChatGPT after initially testing OpenAI’s Instant Checkout in October. The integration provides personalized product discovery within ChatGPT while routing checkouts through Walmart’s own app to maintain its assortment, pricing and fulfillment network.

Walmart has integrated its in-house AI assistant, Sparky, into the ChatGPT interface, replacing the initial Instant Checkout model. Shoppers can now describe preferences or upload images to receive tailored product recommendations from Walmart’s full assortment.

By directing final transactions through its own app and website, Walmart ensures consistent pricing, inventory and delivery options. Daniel Danker, head of AI acceleration, noted this approach preserves the retailer’s value proposition and speed while extending its digital reach into conversational platforms.
