WMTWMT

Walmart's recession signal has surged to its highest level since 2008 as the company's shares climbed about 40% over the past year against luxury retailers. Effective May 1, Sam’s Club membership fees rise from $50 to $60 and Plus tier from $110 to $120, with Sam’s Cash cap at $750.

1. Recession Signal Surge

The Walmart Recession Signal has soared to levels not seen since 2008, reflecting a 40% outperformance of discount over luxury retail stocks over the past year. Historically preceding the last four U.S. recessions, the indicator suggests growing consumer stress among lower- and middle-income households.

2. Sam's Club Fee Hike

Starting May 1, Sam’s Club will raise its base membership fee from $50 to $60 and Plus tier from $110 to $120, while raising the Plus tier Sam’s Cash cap to $750. This $10 increase per tier is expected to boost high-margin subscription revenue without dampening renewal trends.
