WeRide and Uber launched Abu Dhabi’s first downtown robotaxi service on February 12, 2026, with safety specialists aboard and a dedicated Autonomous booking option. The deployment covers about 70% of core urban areas with a fourfold fleet increase since December 2024.

WeRide and Uber began commercial operations of autonomous robotaxis in downtown Abu Dhabi on February 12, 2026, with safety specialists on board. Riders traveling near the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque and major Corniche hotels can book trips via UberX, Uber Comfort or a dedicated Autonomous booking option.
2. Expanded Coverage and Fleet Growth
The service now spans roughly 70% of Abu Dhabi’s core urban areas following a fourfold increase in fleet size since December 2024. Tawasul Transport serves as the primary fleet operator, handling vehicle deployment and management across key landmarks.
3. Regional Expansion Strategy
Leveraging a four-year first-mover advantage, WeRide currently operates over 200 robotaxis across the Middle East. The company and Uber plan to scale their joint fleet to thousands of robotaxis across Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Riyadh by 2027.
