Spain grants first national permit for Level 4 robotaxi testing

WeRide, Uber and AVOMO secured Spain’s first national permit for Level 4 autonomous passenger vehicles on public roads under the DGT ES-AV framework.

Authorization enables mapping, route validation and readiness testing in Greater Madrid ahead of a planned commercial launch by end-2026.

The initial rollout targets 20 GXR autonomous vehicles with an in-car specialist, operating across high-demand areas in the Madrid region.

The project marks the partners’ first planned autonomous vehicle deployment in Europe, positioning Madrid as the fourth city in the WeRide–Uber rollout.
