Whirlpool Corporation employs 4,500 workers at Clyde and Marion, Ohio laundry plants, with Clyde operating since 1952 as the world’s largest washing machine factory and Marion celebrating its 70th anniversary. In October 2025, the company pledged a $300 million boost to these factories to create up to 600 new jobs.

1. U.S. Manufacturing Leadership Reinforced by Local Governments

In a joint opinion piece published January 15, 2026 in The Plain Dealer, the mayors of Clyde and Marion, Ohio applauded Whirlpool Corporation’s status as the only major U.S.–based kitchen and laundry appliance manufacturer. They highlighted the company’s operation of two facilities employing approximately 4,500 workers across northwest Ohio. The Clyde plant, in continuous operation since 1952, is recognized as the world’s largest washing machine factory, while the Marion site recently marked its 70th anniversary of uninterrupted production.

2. $300 Million Investment Spurs 600 Jobs in Ohio

On October 15, 2025, Whirlpool announced a $300 million capital commitment to its Clyde and Marion facilities, earmarked for equipment upgrades, automation enhancements and sustainability initiatives. This investment is projected to create up to 600 new positions over the next two years, bolstering local employment and reinforcing Whirlpool’s long-term manufacturing footprint in the U.S.

3. Proactive Measures Address Housing Market Weakness

Facing a slowdown in U.S. housing starts, Whirlpool has accelerated its product refresh cadence—introducing four major laundry and kitchen appliance line updates since Q3 2025—and reports a 120-basis-point gain in North America market share in the small domestic appliances segment. The company is also expanding manufacturing flexibility, planning to increase annual output capacity by 10% (approximately 200,000 additional units) by mid-2026 to position itself for an anticipated housing rebound.
