Williams-Sonoma drops lawsuit against Quince over 'dupe' products
WSM•Williams-Sonoma asked a California federal court to dismiss its lawsuit against Quince without prejudice, allowing it to refile. A judge had ruled in September that Quince's ads were not misleading and allowed Williams-Sonoma to amend its claims.
1. Dismissal request
Williams-Sonoma filed a motion Tuesday to dismiss its lawsuit against online retailer Quince without prejudice. The company had accused Quince of false advertising over allegedly inferior copies of its products promoted as “Like Williams-Sonoma, but half the price.”
2. Earlier court ruling
U.S. District Judge Edward Davila ruled against Williams-Sonoma in September, finding Quince's ads were not misleading, but gave Williams-Sonoma permission to amend its claims. Quince head of legal Joel Dion said the company stands behind its products, advertising and value to consumers.
