WISeKey Secures European Patent for Hardware-Embedded NFT Tech, Launches First Hardware-Authenticated Art Platform
WKEY•WISeKey’s SEALSQ subsidiary secured a divisional European Patent covering its ‘Back-to-Physical’ NFT technology, enabling NFTs to be embedded directly into secure semiconductor chips with hardware-rooted provenance. Its WISe.ART platform now stands as the world’s first hardware-authenticated art marketplace, unlocking licensing potential across the $65 billion global art market.
1. European Patent Grant
SEALSQ secured European Patent EP 4174706 A1 for its ‘Back-to-Physical’ NFT technology, granting exclusive rights to embed NFTs directly into tamper-proof microcontrollers. This patent establishes an immutable, hardware-rooted chain of provenance, ownership and authenticity at the silicon level.
2. Launch of Hardware-Authenticated Art Platform
WISe.ART now integrates SEALSQ’s secure semiconductors to anchor NFT certificates within physical artwork, offering post-quantum cryptographic protection and decentralized verification. This marks the first time artwork authenticity is cryptographically sealed at the hardware level.
3. Market and Commercial Impact
By addressing forgery and provenance gaps in the $65 billion art market and aligning with forthcoming EU Digital Product Passport mandates, WISe.ART and SEALSQ are positioned to license this technology across art, luxury goods and cultural heritage, creating new revenue opportunities for WISeKey.
