Xenon reports positive Phase 1 results for pain drugs XEN1701 and XEN1120
XENE•Xenon Pharmaceuticals plans Phase 2 acute pain studies of XEN1701 and XEN1120 in the first half of 2027 after positive Phase 1 results. Both drugs were generally well tolerated, with no treatment-related dose-limiting adverse events or discontinuations.
1. Phase 1 findings
XEN1701 achieved modeled NaV1.7 receptor occupancy above 75% in the peripheral and central nervous systems, without consistent autonomic cardiovascular effects. XEN1120 exceeded predicted effective exposures from animal models, and modeling supported sustained target concentrations with maintenance dosing. Both drugs were generally well tolerated, with no treatment-related dose-limiting adverse events or adverse events leading to discontinuation.
2. Next studies
Xenon Pharmaceuticals plans Phase 2 acute pain studies of both drugs in the first half of 2027. In monkeys, a compound comparable to XEN1701 reduced evoked pain by approximately 85%-100% at the two highest doses, without meaningful cardiovascular changes.
