Xos Begins April 2026 V2G Production on Major School Bus Platform
Xos will begin V2G production in April 2026 on a major North American school bus platform, enabling fleets to discharge stored energy back to the grid to create revenue streams and reduce peak demand charges. It plans to expand bidirectional charging to step vans, powertrains and energy storage systems.
1. V2G Production Launch
Starting April 2026, Xos will commence production of V2G-enabled vehicles on one of North America’s largest electric school bus platforms, allowing fleets to return stored energy to the grid without hardware retrofits or complex utility approvals.
2. Bidirectional Capability Roadmap
Xos has outlined a multi-phase plan to extend bidirectional charging across its full product portfolio, including step vans, core powertrains and energy storage systems, positioning every depot as an active energy node.
3. Fleet Benefits and Grid Integration
The V2G system enables fleet operators to generate new revenue streams, reduce peak demand charges, defer infrastructure upgrades and participate in demand response programs, leveraging predictable return-to-base schedules for optimized energy management.
