YouTube Launches Pilot Deepfake Detection for Public Figures with ID Verification
Alphabet’s YouTube has launched a pilot program letting verified politicians, government officials and journalists detect and request removal of AI-generated deepfake videos by verifying identity with a selfie and government ID. The company supports the NO FAKES Act, labeling AI videos and reviewing takedown requests under privacy guidelines.
1. Pilot Program Details
YouTube has expanded its likeness detection tool to a pilot group of public figures including politicians, government officials and journalists, enabling them to enroll for AI deepfake monitoring through the platform.
2. Verification and Removal Process
Participants submit a video selfie and government-issued ID to verify identity, view detected AI-generated videos, request removal under existing policies, and see labels applied based on whether the AI aspect materially affects content while exemptions like parody remain allowed.
3. Legislative Backing and Policy
YouTube is advocating for the NO FAKES Act to regulate unauthorized AI recreations of individuals’ voices and likenesses, reinforcing its commitment to content integrity after removing AI-generated spam channels and low-quality deceptive videos.
