YouTube Pilots Likeness Detection for Public Figures, Chrome Adds Gemini AI in 3 Markets
Alphabet’s YouTube has launched a pilot allowing verified politicians and journalists to detect and request removal of AI-generated deepfakes via selfie and government ID. Google is rolling out Gemini AI in Chrome across India, New Zealand and Canada, adding support for over 50 languages on desktop, iOS and Android.
1. YouTube Deepfake Detection Pilot Launch
Alphabet’s YouTube has initiated a pilot program enabling verified politicians, government officials and journalists to detect AI-generated deepfakes simulating their likeness. Participants verify identity with a selfie and government ID, view detected matches and can request removal under existing policies, while exempting labeled parody or critique content. The system applies AI labels based on content sensitivity and material impact, and ensures removal requests are evaluated under privacy and expression guidelines. The company is supporting federal legislation aimed at regulating unauthorized AI recreations.
2. Chrome Integrates Gemini AI in Three Regions
Google is expanding its Gemini AI features directly into Chrome for desktop and iOS users in India, New Zealand and Canada, built on the latest Gemini 3.1 model. The update adds support for more than fifty additional languages including Hindi, French and Spanish, aimed at accelerating tasks such as research, shopping and inspiration. Android users can activate Gemini by long-pressing the power button across Chrome and other applications. This rollout underscores Google’s push to embed AI assistance into its browser ecosystem.
