Zelenskiy blasts Trump's diesel deal and calls Russian peace moves a 'parody'
USO•Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy criticised Trump's diesel deal with Russia and called Moscow's stance on peace talks a “parody.” He told EU leaders Ukraine needs at least €70 billion next year, while Estonia's prime minister said the EU would probably need to provide a new loan.
1. Diesel deal draws criticism
At an EU summit in Brussels, Zelenskiy said Trump's diesel deal would send money to Russia to fund the war and would not offset the impact of the Strait of Hormuz on global markets. He also said Russian President Vladimir Putin did not want peace talks and described Moscow's position as a “parody” of a genuine desire to end the war.
2. Ukraine seeks EU support
Zelenskiy told EU leaders that the war would cost €155 billion next year and asked for at least €70 billion more for defence, weapons and resilience. Estonian Prime Minister Kristen Michal said the EU would probably have to provide a new loan to help cover Ukraine's budget gap for next year.
3. Satellite disruption continues
Zelenskiy said SpaceX's satellite communications had improved but were not fully restored, putting civilian lives at risk. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Europe could not replace the capability in the short term.
