60 Degrees Pharma Licenses Castanospermine Extraction, Sets July 1 FDA Meeting
SXTP•60 Degrees Pharmaceuticals licensed an exclusive patent from Florida State University to extract castanospermine from Australian Chestnut seeds for non-prescription botanical supplements. The company will meet the FDA on July 1, 2026 to address a Non-Notification Letter and plan a revised safety submission for its Australian Chestnut Extract NDIN.
1. Patent License Agreement
60 Degrees Pharmaceuticals executed an exclusive patent license agreement with Florida State University to commence large-scale extraction and purification of castanospermine from the seeds of Castanospermum australe for non-prescription botanical supplement use.
2. Castanospermine Extraction Plan
Under the license, the company will develop production techniques to isolate the principal component of Australian Chestnut Extract, which at low doses modulates carbohydrate metabolism and at higher doses shows immunomodulatory effects in animal models.
3. FDA Meeting and Regulatory Pathway
The FDA issued a Non-Notification Letter on the company’s New Dietary Ingredient Notification for Australian Chestnut Extract; 60 Degrees Pharma will meet with the agency on July 1, 2026 to clarify required safety data and prepare a revised NDIN submission.
