Alphabet Completes $32B Wiz Acquisition and Merges Google Fiber with Astound

Alphabet completed its $32B acquisition of cybersecurity firm Wiz to bolster cloud security and merged Google Fiber with Stonepeak’s Astound Broadband, retaining a minority stake. The GFiber-Astound merger is expected to close in Q4 2026 and create fiber provider, while the Wiz deal enhances Alphabet’s stance against AWS and Microsoft.

1. Cybersecurity Acquisition

Alphabet finalized its $32 billion purchase of Wiz, marking its largest-ever deal and reinforcing Google Cloud’s security offering. Wiz’s platform will operate across AWS, Microsoft Azure and Oracle Cloud, positioning Alphabet to better compete on secure AI and cloud infrastructure services.

2. Fiber Merger

Alphabet’s Google Fiber unit is combining with Stonepeak-backed Astound Broadband, with Stonepeak as majority owner and Alphabet retaining a significant minority stake. The deal, expected to close in Q4 2026, will create one of the largest fiber providers led by GFiber’s existing management team.
