Alphabet Explores First Yen Bond for AI Funding; Google AI Upgrades Samsung Fridges
Alphabet is considering its first-ever yen-denominated bond sale to secure local-currency funding for AI infrastructure and expansion in Asia. Meanwhile, Google’s Gemini AI will power Samsung’s upgraded Bespoke smart refrigerators to recognize thousands of foods through on-device computer vision.
1. Alphabet's Yen Bond Initiative
Alphabet is in talks to issue its inaugural yen-denominated bond, marking its first foray into Japanese local-currency debt. The issuance aims to raise funding for AI infrastructure and research, diversify the company’s capital structure and take advantage of favorable interest rates in Japan’s debt market.
2. Samsung Smart Fridge AI Upgrade
Google’s Gemini AI will be integrated into Samsung’s Bespoke smart refrigerators, enabling on-device computer vision to identify and track thousands of food items. The update leverages AI to improve inventory management and smart notifications, and is expected to rollout via a firmware upgrade later this year.
