Amazon has launched Connect Health, an AI-driven platform through AWS designed to handle healthcare administrative tasks such as patient verification, appointment scheduling, clinical documentation and medical coding, integrating directly with electronic health record systems. UC San Diego Health reports one minute saved per call and 60% lower call abandonment rates.

1. Launch of Amazon Connect Health

On March 5, Amazon Web Services unveiled Connect Health, a 24/7 AI-driven platform aimed at automating key administrative workflows for healthcare providers. The tool is designed to reduce staffing burdens by managing high-volume tasks without human intervention until escalation is required.

2. Integration and Functionality

Connect Health integrates directly with electronic health record systems to perform patient verification, appointment scheduling, medical history compilation, clinical documentation and coding. It features an evidence mapping capability that links AI-generated outputs to supporting data such as call transcripts or medical records.

3. Early Performance Metrics

UC San Diego Health, an initial adopter, reports saving approximately one minute per patient call and cutting call abandonment rates by up to 60%. The system also transcribes doctor–patient conversations, auto-generates draft clinical notes and produces simplified summaries for patient review.

4. Strategic Impact on AWS

By targeting the healthcare sector, AWS expands its cloud platform into a high-growth vertical that demands stringent data accuracy and compliance. The rollout positions Amazon to capture additional revenue from subscription and usage fees while strengthening its presence in regulated industries.
