Amazon Faces Vera CPU Graviton Challenge While Investing $10B in European Robotics
AMZN•Nvidia’s new Vera data-center CPU will use SK Hynix DRAM and directly challenge custom chips like Amazon’s Graviton in hyperscale infrastructure. Separately, Amazon plans to invest over $10 billion to modernize European fulfillment centers with next-gen Proteus robots and hire 25,000 new workers by 2030.
1. Vera CPU Competition
Nvidia’s unveiling of Vera, its first standalone data-center CPU using SK Hynix DRAM, positions Nvidia directly against Intel Xeon, AMD Epyc and custom hyperscaler chips like Amazon Graviton, potentially intensifying competition for AWS infrastructure.
2. Amazon’s European Robotics Plan
Amazon plans to invest over $10 billion to modernize European fulfillment centers by 2030, deploying next-generation Proteus autonomous robots and expanding its workforce by 25,000 to accelerate throughput and reduce manual handling.
3. Next-Gen Robot Systems
Proteus 2.0, capable of conversational-language commands, is in lab testing for H1 2027 Europe rollout, while Amazon will expand STARK tote-handling systems to 15 sites and extend tactile-sensing Vulcan pick-and-stow robots to more fulfillment centers.
