American Resources Adds Battery Shredding Line to Expand LFP Recycling
AREC•Electrified Materials Corporation has procured its first battery shredding line to process end-of-life lithium-ion batteries and produce conditioned feedstocks. Initial capacity will focus on LFP chemistry, supporting downstream separation by ReElement Technologies to bolster an integrated domestic supply chain for critical battery minerals.
1. EMCO's Shredding Line Acquisition
Electrified Materials Corporation procured its first battery shredding line designed to safely process end-of-life lithium-ion batteries. The system enhances EMCO's capacity for shredding, pre-processing and conditioning services across magnet materials, copper, aluminum and ferrous scrap.
2. Focus on LFP Battery Chemistry
The new line will initially target lithium iron phosphate batteries, a rapidly growing segment valued for long cycle life, thermal stability and lower cost. EMCO aims to overcome economic hurdles in LFP recycling by centering the model on lithium recovery rather than higher-value metals.
3. Integrated Recycling Supply Chain
Conditioned feedstocks from EMCO flow to ReElement Technologies for downstream separation, purification and refining of critical minerals. This collaboration advances an integrated domestic supply chain, reducing reliance on nickel and cobalt sources and supporting U.S. energy storage and electric vehicle markets.
