Anthropic Secures Over 1 GW in U.S. Data Center Leases, Seeks Google Guarantee
Anthropic has signed over a dozen preliminary agreements to lease U.S. data centers totaling more than 1 GW of capacity. The AI startup is negotiating for Alphabet’s Google to guarantee those lease payments, building on Google’s co-design of potential server chips and its planned $40 billion investment.
1. Data Center Lease Agreements
Anthropic has entered more than a dozen preliminary deals to lease and manage U.S. data centers with combined capacity exceeding 1 GW, targeting sites across multiple states to support its Claude Code AI assistant workloads.
2. Google Guarantee Talks
Anthropic executives are discussing with Google an arrangement whereby Alphabet would provide a financial guarantee for lease payments, leveraging Google’s co-design of server chips intended for deployment in these facilities.
3. Strategic Funding and IPO Plans
As part of its infrastructure expansion, Anthropic confidentially filed for a U.S. IPO this month and plans to draw on Alphabet’s commitment of up to $40 billion, following a late-May funding round that valued the startup at $965 billion post-money.
