Apple Deploys Nvidia GPUs on Google Cloud for Apple Intelligence
AAPL•Apple is expanding its Private Cloud Compute (PCC) infrastructure to Google Cloud, utilizing Nvidia’s AI accelerators to handle inference for Apple Intelligence workloads and the revamped Siri assistant. Nvidia’s GPUs with Confidential Computing will secure sensitive data processing and power server-side inference for Apple Foundation Models.
1. PCC Expansion to Google Cloud
At WWDC, Apple announced it will extend its privacy-focused PCC infrastructure beyond its own data centers by leveraging Google Cloud servers. This marks the first time Apple Intelligence workloads and the updated Siri assistant will run on third-party cloud resources.
2. Nvidia GPU Integration
Google Cloud’s servers are equipped with Nvidia AI accelerators, which will perform confidential inference tasks and handle server-side processing for Apple’s Foundation Models. The use of Nvidia’s Confidential Computing technology isolates sensitive data in secure hardware environments.
3. Historical Apple–Nvidia Relationship
Apple and Nvidia previously collaborated on Mac GPUs in the 2000s before Apple shifted to custom silicon and AMD chips. This renewed partnership represents a strategic pivot back to Nvidia’s hardware for AI services.
4. Strategic and Financial Implications
Outsourcing PCC workloads could reduce Apple’s infrastructure capital expenditure but introduce variable cloud costs. Enhanced AI performance and security may accelerate development of advanced Siri features and other Apple Intelligence applications.
