Applied Optoelectronics Starts 210,000 Sq Ft Texas Facility, Eyes $300M Investment

Applied Optoelectronics has broken ground on a new 210,000 sq ft Sugar Land facility and plans to boost investment from $150M to $300M by end-2027, creating 500 jobs. The expansion targets optical transceiver output for AI and datacenter markets, positioning the company as a leading domestic supplier.

1. Facility Groundbreaking

On February 10, Applied Optoelectronics commenced construction on a 210,000 square foot manufacturing facility at 1111 Gillingham St. in Sugar Land, Texas. This site will serve as a key production hub for the company’s advanced optical and HFC networking products.

2. Investment and Job Creation

Management has committed to increasing total capital investment in this Sugar Land facility and corporate headquarters from $150 million to up to $300 million by the end of next year. The project includes programming automated production lines and is expected to create 500 new local jobs.

3. Strategic Positioning

The expansion is designed to boost domestic supply of optical transceivers for AI and datacenter applications. By enlarging its US manufacturing footprint, the company aims to strengthen its position among leading suppliers serving cloud, telecom, and broadband markets.
