Astrotech’s wholly owned Lunar Power and Light plans a commercial lunar power-generation, storage and distribution network targeting a polar high-illumination site.
The project aims to sell continuous utility-style electricity from shared solar towers, batteries, transmission, metering and recharge services. Nuclear fission is also under review.
The planning assumption uses 90% annual solar access: 7,884 hours of direct sunlight and 876 hours of battery support across an 8,760-hour Earth year.
Lunar Power and Light is evaluating a proposal under NASA’s draft NextSTEP-3 LEIA solicitation, Topic 1 Vertical Solar Array (80GRC026R0008).
The program remains at an early stage and is contingent on technical validation, financing, customer commitments, launch availability and required authorizations.
