AWS Custom Chip Capacity Sold Out as Amazon Secures $10B Cerebras AI Deal

AMZNAMZN

Amazon’s AWS custom chip computing capacity has reached near full utilization, with available slots nearly sold out as enterprise demand surges. AWS will integrate Cerebras Systems’ AI chips under a mid-May IPO filing, following a > $10 billion OpenAI deal and last year’s $1.1 billion Series G funding.

1. AWS Custom Chip Demand Surge

Amazon Web Services’ in-house custom AI computing chips have reached near full capacity as enterprise demand outpaces available infrastructure slots. This unprecedented utilization has prompted Amazon to secure additional chip partnerships to support continued growth.

2. Partnership with Cerebras Systems

In April, AWS signed an agreement with AI chip startup Cerebras Systems to deploy its high-performance training and inference chips in AWS data centers. The partnership comes alongside Cerebras’ mid-May IPO filing and follows a reported contract exceeding $10 billion with OpenAI.

3. Financial and Strategic Implications

Cerebras raised $1.1 billion in Series G funding at an $8.1 billion valuation last year and generated $510 million in 2025 revenue with $237.8 million net income. The upcoming IPO and AWS integration aim to relieve supply constraints while expanding Amazon’s semiconductor ecosystem.
