BHP Group Plans FY26 Iron Ore Shipments of 260–270 Mt on South Flank Ramp-Up
BHP expects Australia’s iron ore shipments to rise to 260–270 million tonnes in FY26, up from 258–268 Mt in FY25, driven by South Flank ramp-up to 80 Mtpa and start-up of a 10 Mtpa Mining Area C expansion. Higher volumes are supported by ongoing rail and Port Hedland infrastructure upgrades.
1. Production Guidance
BHP has set its 2026 financial year iron ore shipment guidance at 260–270 Mt, compared with 258–268 Mt in FY25, reflecting the company’s confidence in demand stability. This incremental increase underscores BHP’s commitment to maintaining market share amid evolving pricing dynamics.
2. Project Ramp-Ups
The South Flank mine will reach its 80 Mtpa design capacity by mid-FY26 while the Mining Area C expansion adds a further 10 Mtpa, underpinning the targeted shipment range. Parallel investments in rail corridor enhancements and Port Hedland loading facilities will ensure the new output is effectively exported.
