BP appoints Ben Monaghan as M&A chief from early 2027
BP•BP appointed former JPMorgan banker Ben Monaghan as senior vice president for mergers and acquisitions and business development, effective early 2027.
1. New M&A chief
Monaghan will lead BP’s mergers and acquisitions and business development work from early 2027. He is a partner at PJT Partners’ Strategic Advisory Group, where he specialized in global energy and energy transactions.
2. Investment priorities
CEO Meg O’Neill, who became chief executive in April, has prioritized a more disciplined investment approach rooted in profitability, cash generation and market realities. BP has continued to pursue divestments as part of its drive to become more profitable.
3. Previous roles
Sam Skerry led BP’s M&A business from 2022 until becoming head of supply, trading and shipping in August. Monaghan previously served as finance chief of Genel and spent 20 years at JPMorgan, leading its Europe, Middle East and Africa energy investment banking team.
