BWXT, Prodigy Clean Energy team up on transportable nuclear power plant using BANR microreactor
BWXT•BWX Technologies will work with Prodigy Clean Energy on a transportable nuclear power plant project in New Brunswick using BANR microreactors. The Indigenous-led pilot in Belledune targets operation in the early 2030s.
1. Pilot project plans
Prodigy selected BWXT’s BANR technology for the Indigenous-led transportable nuclear power plant pilot in Belledune, New Brunswick, with in-service operation targeted for the early 2030s. The companies are working toward a definitive agreement covering development, engineering, licensing, supply chain integration, financing and deployment.
2. Reactor and manufacturing
BANR is designed as a 75-megawatt-thermal, 22-megawatt-electric high-temperature gas-cooled microreactor using HALEU TRISO fuel. BWXT Canada, through Kinectrics, is expected to support delivery using Canadian manufacturing, with major fabrication planned in Ontario.
