Canada Nickel Raises Reid Resource by 46% to 2.1 Mt Contained Nickel
Canada Nickel boosted measured & indicated resources at its Reid Nickel project by 46% to 2.1 Mt of contained nickel (0.87 Bt at 0.23% Ni) and increased inferred resources by 47% to 3.2 Mt contained nickel (1.45 Bt at 0.22% Ni). The deposit remains open and sits within a 1.19:1 strip ratio pit shell.
1. Ontario Endorses Crawford Nickel Project Under One Project, One Process Framework
The Province of Ontario has formally designated the Crawford Nickel Project as the second initiative in its new One Project, One Process framework, designed to streamline permitting and review across ministries. This endorsement reflects Crawford’s status as one of Canada’s most advanced critical minerals developments. Crawford is positioned to become the Western world’s largest nickel sulphide mine, anchoring a low-carbon mining and clean-metals corridor in Northeastern Ontario. Independent analysis projects more than C$70 billion in GDP contribution over a 40-year mine life, including C$67 billion for Ontario, while supporting 1,000 direct and 3,000 indirect and induced jobs. The project’s patented In-Process Tailings Carbonation technology is expected to permanently store up to 1.5 million tonnes of CO₂ per year, establishing Crawford as one of Canada’s largest carbon storage facilities and the world’s first net-zero carbon nickel operation. Canada Nickel plans to commence construction by year-end and will collaborate with Ontario’s newly announced Critical Minerals Processing Fund to secure downstream processing capacity and alloy production facilities.
2. Reid Nickel Sulphide Resource Increases 46% Measured & Indicated, 47% Inferred
The adjacent Reid Nickel Sulphide Project, located 16 kilometres southwest of Crawford, has reported a 46% increase in Measured & Indicated contained nickel to 2.1 million tonnes (0.87 billion tonnes @ 0.23% Ni) and a 47% rise in Inferred contained nickel to 3.2 million tonnes (1.45 billion tonnes @ 0.22% Ni). A higher-grade domain now totals 0.77 billion tonnes @ 0.25% Ni within the Measured & Indicated category, while the Inferred higher-grade domain comprises 0.98 billion tonnes @ 0.24% Ni. The updated Mineral Resource Estimate is derived from 89 drill holes totalling over 51,000 metres, with the deposit extending 2.3 kilometres in length, 1.1 kilometres in width and 720 metres in depth, remaining open along multiple directions. An additional exploration target of 0.5–1.4 billion tonnes grading 0.21–0.22% Ni has been identified within the geophysical signature, pending further drilling. The updated resource positions Reid as one of the world’s largest nickel sulphide deposits, benefiting from a lower strip ratio and reduced overburden compared with Crawford, and reinforcing the long-term development pipeline in the Timmins Nickel District.
