Canada trade surplus widens to C$4.2 billion in August

Exports increased to C$77.909 billion, led by energy products and consumer goods. Imports declined to C$73.710 billion, with decreases in motor vehicles and parts, and metal and non-metallic mineral products. August marked the sixth consecutive monthly surplus.
The Canadian dollar appreciated 1.1 U.S. cents in August compared with the July average, its strongest monthly increase since December 2025, affecting trade values.
