Cloudflare plans launch of public certificate authority for post-quantum web
NET•Cloudflare plans to launch a public certificate authority issuing traditional TLS certificates and post-quantum Merkle Tree Certificates. Classical issuance is slated to begin after browser root program approvals, while production MTC issuance is planned for Q1 2027.
1. Certificate authority plans
Cloudflare plans to launch a public certificate authority to issue TLS certificates for websites, expanding beyond its existing connectivity services. The authority will support traditional certificates and post-quantum Merkle Tree Certificates, and Cloudflare agreed to acquire publicly trusted Root CA key material from GlobalSign to seek immediate browser recognition, including on legacy devices. Classical certificate issuance is slated to start after browser root program approvals are completed; production MTC issuance is planned for Q1 2027.
