Compass Withdraws Lawsuit After Zillow Agrees to Display Keller Williams, Re/Max Pre-Marketed Listings

COMPCOMP

Compass dropped its lawsuit against Zillow after Zillow updated its Listing Access Standards to allow pre-marketed homes from brokerages including Keller Williams and Re/Max. Compass also signed a deal with Redfin to display its “Coming Soon” listings immediately and will add its “Private Exclusives” later.

1. Lawsuit Withdrawal and Platform Update

Compass dropped its multi-month lawsuit after Zillow revised its Listing Access Standards to permit pre-marketed listings from firms such as Keller Williams and Re/Max. A judge had allowed Zillow’s original policy to remain in place during litigation, but Zillow’s standards update effectively resolved the dispute.

2. Redfin Distribution Agreement

Compass has entered into an agreement with Redfin to feature its “Coming Soon” inventory on the Redfin platform, with plans to roll out its “Private Exclusives” network at a later date. The deal broadens Compass’s listing exposure beyond its own channels.

3. Industry Listing Standards Evolution

The dispute traces back to National Association of Realtors rules on semi-private listings, which initially required broad MLS distribution within 24 hours. Recent NAR amendments now let individual MLSs set their own timelines for private or delayed marketing strategies.
