Constellation Adds 25 MW at The Geysers to Power 25,000 Homes
CEG•Constellation has added 25 MW at The Geysers geothermal complex, boosting capacity to power 25,000 homes annually and complementing the 38 MW storage system installed in 2024. The new output allocates 18 MW to Clean Power Alliance customers and 7 MW to Bay Area utility MCE.
1. Expansion Project Details
Constellation completed a 25 MW capacity addition at The Geysers geothermal complex in Sonoma County, marking the latest phase of investment following a 38 MW energy storage installation in 2024. The new turbines tap existing steam reservoirs to deliver continuous baseload power.
2. Customer Allocations
Of the 25 MW increase, 18 MW is contracted to Clean Power Alliance for Southern California supply, while the remaining 7 MW supports customers of MCE in the Bay Area. These allocations ensure around-the-clock renewable energy delivery to over 25,000 homes annually.
3. Strategic Implications
The expansion reinforces Constellation’s leadership in geothermal energy and strengthens California’s grid reliability with dispatchable, weather-independent power. The project labor agreement with local unions underscores the company’s commitment to skilled workforce standards and regional economic benefits.
